Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night. (Rainer Maria Rilke)

It's COLD here in the Subtropics!

Brrrrrr, we're forcasted to get temps in the low 40's this weekend.  I'm not really looking forward to that, but I won't complain too much because I do relish a chance to wear gloves and Uggs!

However, it does means I've got to drag in the orchids - at least the ones on the lanai.

There's only a couple blooming at the moment, so the rest of these photos are from last year and before.

You know I'm enamored with this purple one...

This white Phalaenopsis is so pristine and pretty.

And I'm so fascinated by lime green blooms!  Beautiful!

It's hard to choose a favorite orchid, but I think the Vandas are my fave.

This color was a surprise as I bought it unopened.

Sharing a spot with the hammock hook.

I think it's the root system that makes me giddy with the Vandas.  So jungle-like!

And a photo from a few years ago when they were all magically blooming at the same time!

If anyone is interested in my penpal and mail art hobby - I've made a post on my art blog about it here:  Backyard Jungle Art

Stay warm and safe everyone!

I don't think it will be too bad this weekend. Windy, but at least we will have some sun to warm us up! Your orchids are stunning. I'd love for you to share this outdoor post on Tuesday's Maple Hill Hop! I think folks (especially up north) would really enjoy it. Stay toasty!

Hi Lynn! Those orchids are amazing, certainly worthy of protecting. The few cold days we have always make me appreciate our normal, gorgeous Florida weather. A chance to get out the boots and sweaters is a welcome change, for a couple days. Stay warm!

What beautiful orchids! I brought mine into the screened porch/metal roof off the kitchen, grouped them together and covered them with a sheet. It is supposed to get down to 41 here in s.e. FL and feel like it's 35. For us that is COLD. It was very windy here all day and there's still a little wind, but it is supposed to be dying down.

Have a lovely Sunday and enjoy our bit of winter weather.

Brrrrrrr! It really is cold isn't it?! I know we shouldn't complain with all that snow up north but its a bit of a shock to the system! Haha! Lynn, your orchids are absolutely beautiful! You have some gorgeous colors and I really like how you just have them in baskets like that because they look even more beautiful with their roots dangling down. Really lovely! Mine have all come up close to the house and the ones outside in the trees got wrapped carefully. Hopefully it won't be too bad tonight! As always, it is such a delight to see photos of your lovely flowers!

Hi Lynn, you have a fabulous collection of orchids. Vandas are a favorite of mine as well as the phals. Love how you display them on your lanai. Mine are scattered through out the house and in the garage with a lot of other tender favorites. We're expecting 31 degrees here tonight and I'm hoping they are wrong. Stay warm down there in the south and enjoy your blooming beauties.

What an amazing collection of orchids you have! When I was growing up, my parents grew orchids (in Tallahassee). They hung them in the trees in summer, but then they brought them inside to sit on the window sills in winter. It must be great to be able to grow them outside nearly all year round. They're so beautiful and romantic!

Hi Daisy! Oh, thank you so much! I'd be honored to join your blog hop on Tuesday! I love looking at all the blogs that join in. We are finally warming up today - hurray!

Hi Janice! Thank you! And I know - it's so nice to pull out the turtleneck and a sweater, isn't it! I think the biggest thrill is getting to wear my small, but treasured collection of gloves...and boots! :)

Hello Lorraine! Oh, yes - we definitely got down to 41 as well last night. Had the heater on and still couldn't feel warm. I've had my share of warm beverages this week, that's for sure! :)

Hi Kate! Thanks so much! I am a little worried about the orchids on the trees, but I didn't cover them. They seem to be ok today - and we're finally warming up. I, too, feel a little guilty complaining when we all know how hard the north has been hit lately with cold and snow. But, I really am COLD, lol!

Thanks very much Susan! I don't seem to do well with my orchids unless I let their roots hang out. I think they were getting too soggy and not airing out enough until I did that. Luckily we are quite humid and warm most of the time!

Hi Leslie! Oh yeah, I'm a total romantic - I guess that's why I'm so enamored with how the roots cascade and look wild, yet strangely pretty. Thank you for your very nice comment! :)
