Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night. (Rainer Maria Rilke)

My Butterfly Friends

I've got two Gulf Fritillary butterflies that have been visiting the Pentas lately.

This shows the underside, which I think is so pretty.  I've decided to name these two Gully and Fritz.

I was really happy when this Monarch showed up the other day.  And yes, he's been named too - Monty.  (perhaps I don't have enough to occupy my mind, I name everything, haha)

Here's a pic of them playing nice together on the same plant.  There's enough for everybody!

I've also got a Giant Yellow Swallowtail that visits almost every day.  I've named her Swishy, because she never seems to stop beating her wings.  This shot I took at our previous place.  I haven't been able to get photos of Swishy yet...just movin' too fast!

We have a lot of White Peacocks like this one above.  I also see quite a few Yellow Sulphur butterflies.

The one I haven't seen yet in our new yard, is our state butterfly the Zebra Longwing.

So, I'd better get busy and plant some of their host plants (Passiflora incarnata) if I want to increase the odds of having them visit!

Hope you all have a wonderful Turkey Day!  And if you don't recognize Thanksgiving where you live, I hope you have a wonderful day as well!

We posted about the gulf fritillaries today too! Your shots are fantastic! Isn't it a blessing to have these beautiful and wondrous creatures in our gardens?
I am thankful for all that I have learned on your blog. It makes me smile whenever I visit. Thank you and have a wonderful holiday.

Lynn - how like you to name your butterflies! Wish I could trade you some Zebra Longwings for the White Peacocks. I have Mexican Petunias, which is named as a host plant for the White Peacocks, but have never seen one in our area. Happy Thanksgiving! _Janice

Your butterfly pics are fabulous! We've had plenty of the still around up here in the central part of the state. Lots of Monarch cats. Your names for your butterfly friends are cute. The Zebra's definitely love the passion vine. Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving Day.

Look at all those beautiful fall butterflies! The giant yellow swallowtails are somewhat rare in my garden . . . I always get so excited when I see one. I think because they are so bright and BIG! Aren't we blessed to live in a place where we can have butterflies visit year round?!

Looking forward to see what you plant. :-)
